Planting Hope

Rotary Planting Hope
Starting with grass seed following the devastating flood of 2011, the Sunrise and Noon Rotary clubs of Minot saw beyond not only rebuilding the valley, but beautifying our community for years to come. Since its inception in 2012, Rotary Planting Hope has provided enough grass seed to replant more than 1,800 homes and 300 acres of parks, planted over 150 trees and shrubs, and improved the quality of life in our community. Not stopping there, the Rotary clubs saw value in teaching young students the importance of "service above self" and community stewardship. Working with Sunnyside Elementary school in 2015, 54 trees were planted at the back entrance of Roosevelt park, making it an inviting and welcoming space. It is our hope to partner with more schools in the Minot area and continue this project on an annual basis.

Plans for the $5,000 grant if chosen would entail purchasing trees from Lowe's Garden and Floral Center to enhance the four entrances to town in the fall of 2017. With trees being an average of $175.00 each, this grant would help us purchase 28 trees, assisting the Minot Park District in their efforts to enhance green space as outlined in the City of Minot master plan. The Rotary Planting Hope movement has been recognized by the North Dakota Forestry Services, North Dakota State University, and has also received the North Dakota Trees Award. The use of this grant will not only provide cosmetic upgrades to our community for years to come, it will take part in sustaining it.
